Liya Kebede's clothing line

I have always loved Liya Kebede. She's a model, mother, actress, philanthropist and now she has added fashion designer to the list. So naturally, I had to check it out. Just another celebrity selling clothes you might say but it's actually a little more complicated than that. This woman was a Goodwill Ambassador for goodness sakes.

Kebede is a native of Ethiopia where apparently there was little demand for the goods of local weavers. Unsettled by the thought of these people ultimately becoming jobless, she decided to create a clothing line crafted from handmade cotton pieces in order to preserve a dying trade.

Her clothing line is called lemlem, which means to
flourish or bloom in Amharic. The line can be found in such stores as Bloomingdale's and Barney's or you can check out the online store. The prices are a little steep for children's clothing but I suppose that is because they are handmade. I suggest you take a peek at what she has to offer. I have had my eye on these little numbers!

She and her daughter Raee are the perfect spokespersons for the brand.

Until next time darlings.
