5 Do's for healthy winter hair

Winter can really put a damper on your hairstyles. But a darling is never worried and always prepared. Here are some tips to help you along.

Number 1:  Do stay away from heat!

I know you're tempted to pick up that diffuser now that you don't have warm weather to dry your hair but it's more sensible to air-dry. The reason our hair becomes so dry during this time is because the cold weather strips away the moisture from our hair as does heat so it's kind of a two wrongs don't make a right kind of deal. Try styles that don't require long drying times or that can easily be tucked away while drying such as; twists, braids and buns. However, if you must straighten, stretch it out as long as you can before you do it again.

Number 2:  Do deep treatments.

If you haven't all-ready, invest in a good deep conditioner. Your hair is most likely looking for a little TLC at this point and nothing says I love you like an overnight deep condition. If you can't sleep with it in, 15 minutes with a hot towel should be a quick fix. You can even do an oil treatment before you shampoo. Oils such as coconut and olive oil work better the longer they are left it. So feel free to apply even days before washing. Buns and braids are the best way to keep the oils in your hair.

Number 3: Do sleep in satin.

Put those beautiful silk and satin scarves to work. These fabrics help trap moisture from leaving the hair and when worn at night with a bit of oil, such as coconut, can replenish some of what you lost during the day. You can even wear a scarf underneath a beanie if all your doing is running errands.

Number 4: Do use a leave-in.

Don't assume that after you wash your conditioner out your hair will still stay soft. Leave-in conditioners are a good way to keep that moisture in from wet hair. You can also use it to refresh your curls before heading out into the cold.

Number 5: Do be a covered girl not a "Cover girl".

I know you want the world to see those beautiful curls, I feel your pain, but the elements alone can damage our hair even if we never comb it. So the wind, and Chilling cold of winter can really wear it out. Grab a few hats and scarves or get a coat with a nice fur lined hood. As long as those curls are covered you're good. Just make sure that those hats are line with satin , you don't want to find bald spots come summer!

That's it darlings. Stay warm!
